
Sulu State College (SSC) took part in the Training Course on Freedom of Information (FOI) vis-à-vis Data Privacy Act and Policy Formulation conducted by the Responders Support Group INC.
held from May 14 to 16, 2025, at the Camelot Hotel in Quezon City.
The three-day training was facilitated by Atty. Ella Rose P. Abeleda and was attended by representatives from various local and private institutions across the country. Mr. Ahmed Zhedriq Bandahala, the Data Privacy Officer of Sulu State College, represented the institution during the event.
The course aimed to deepen the understanding of the legal and ethical frameworks surrounding the Data Privacy Act and the FOI Program. Sessions included the Declaration of Policy and Definition of Terms, Scope of Application, Rights of Data Subjects, and Prohibited Acts and Penalties under the Data Privacy Act. The program also tackled the standard procedures and remedies under the FOI framework.
Participants were also engaged in practical sessions such as drafting consent forms, data privacy notices, and institutional data privacy manuals. Outputs were presented and critiqued in groups, encouraging collaboration and exchange of best practices among attendees.
The training concluded with a post-test and evaluation, followed by the awarding of certificates during the closing activities.
Through this initiative, SSC affirms its commitment to transparency, accountability, and the protection of personal data in accordance with national laws and regulations.
