
The Organization of Student Services Educators, Inc. (OSSEI) hosted the 2024 OSSEI National Training Workshop on Campus Journalism from September 26-28, 2024, at the Crown Legacy Hotel in Baguio City. The event brought together student journalists from across the country, including Sihnag Publication from Sulu State College. The workshop aimed to equip student journalists with the skills and knowledge necessary to excel in campus journalism, while also fostering a sense of community and collaboration among participants.
The event featured insightful lectures by renowned speakers, including Mr. Angelo Kairos dela Cruz, who discussed “Climate Reporting: A Continuing Challenge for the Campus Press”; Prof. Ben Domingo, Jr. and Prof. Liana Barro, who presented “Evaluating Campus Publications”; Mr. Jimmy Domingo, who spoke on “Multimedia Journalism”; Ms. Joyce Pañares, who explored “AI in Journalism and Fact Checking”; Mr. Melvin Gascon, who tackled “Engaging the Campus Press in Political Reportage”, Mr. Ever M. Samson, who. talked about Editorial Cartooning; Prof. Regidor Gaboy, who discussed about Page Design and Layout; and Mr. Frank Cimatu, who taught “Cultural Sensitivity Reporting”. The three-day event concluded with the awarding of winners in various competitions held during the training and the distribution of certificates of participation to the delegates.
Fatima Rayhamn S. Sangkula, Editor-in-Chief of Sihnag Publication, won third place in the on-the-spot Editorial Cartooning competition, earning pride and honor for the entire SSC community.
