SULU STATE COLLEGE SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL SEMINAR WORKSHOP: ENHANCING QUALITY EDUCATION FOR AN EQUITABLE FUTURE

On January 28, 2025, the Sulu State College Senior High School Supreme Student Government (SSG) conducted their inaugural seminar-workshop with a theme: “Transcending Excellence: Unlocking Potential Through Skills and Innovation.” Held at the SSC Hostel, Patikul, Sulu. The event aimed to enhance students’ understanding of quality education that featured Academic Writing and Public Speaking. The SSG, under the guidance of their esteemed adviser, Hja. Rejiena N. Reyes, LPT, MAEd., organized and facilitated the workshop, and was hosted by their Senators, Mr. Mohammad Alyh Suaib, and Ms. Pearl-zyca Isdari.

The seminar commenced with an invocation led by the SSG Senate President, Mr. Mohammad Ferdaus Edris. Following this, the SSG Vice President Ms. Alnedzra Abubasar delivered her opening remarks that set the tone for the day’s event. The students then received motivational messages from Asst. Prof. Safrazhad S. Akarab, Jd., the Senior High School Coordinator, who shared inspiring words of encouragement and guidance.

Thirty students, five representing each section of the Senior High School, participated in the seminar-workshop. The morning session focused on academic writing, led by Asst. Prof. Adawia Jamasali, Ed.D., the adviser of the SSC Sihnag Publication. Professor Jamasali provided a comprehensive lesson on crafting effective essays. Following the lecture, a hands-on workshop allowed participants to actively apply their learned techniques where they actively participated and shared their written essays about their chosen topics.

The afternoon session focused on the “Senior High School Talk”, which highlighted a lesson on Public Speaking delivered by the second resource speaker, Engr. Firash Zhed S. Ututalum, M.Sc., the Dean of Student Affairs and Services. During this session, the participants overcame their fear of public speaking, inspired by the supportive and encouraging environment created for them. They enthusiastically engaged in the activities, feeling free to express themselves, interact with others, and explore the beauty and power of effective public speaking. This transformative experience allowed them to built confidence and appreciate the significance of communication skills in personal and professional growth.

The event concluded with smiles on the students’ faces and newfound knowledge in their minds. The closing remarks were delivered by the SSG adviser, Hja. Rejiena N. Reyes, MAEd, followed by a group photo with the resource speakers and the distribution of certificates to the participants. It is our hope that all participants gained valuable insights from the seminar-workshop and will bring this knowledge to their classrooms and beyond. Through this initiative, we aim to support students in enhancing their learning, fostering quality education, and inspiring excellence within themselves.
