Senator Alan Peter Cayetano has proposed converting Sulu State College in Jolo, Sulu, into Sulu State University to boost higher education and development in the province.

As Chair of the Senate Committee on Higher, Technical, and Vocational Education, Cayetano submitted Senate Committee Report No. 467 on January 22, 2025. The initiative, through House Bill No. 9334, aims to provide advanced instruction and research in fields like agriculture, engineering, and education.
